Body Procedures Manhattan
Now the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, liposuction (also know as lipoplasty and liposculpture) permanently removes and sculpts the body by removing undesirable fat from areas around the thighs, abdomen, hips, arms, neck and other areas. Dr. Giese uses the aggressive ultra-sound assisted method (UAL). Liposuction is not a substitute for healthy diet and exercise, but the procedure can eliminate areas of fat that are unresponsive to typical weight-loss methods. Surgery can be combined with a “detox program”, Dr. Giese’s signature LipoDetox™ for maximal results to feel and look your best. Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic plastic surgery procedures in the United States today. Also known as “lipoplasty” or “liposculpture,” this procedure is designed to contour the body into a slimmer, shapelier figure. At Dr. Giese’s practice, she performs ultrasound assisted liposuction (UAL) to remove stubborn fat deposits from the neck, arms, abdomen, hips, thighs, and various other areas. The result — a more attractive shape with skin tightening. Those who qualify as liposuction patients may also be ideal candidates for Dr. Giese’s LipoDetox ™ program “to detox the body from inside out.” Dr. Giese performed the original research that shows liposuction can successfully be integrated in a weight loss program. Many women having large volume liposuction lose 2 to 3 clothing sizes in 6 weeks. You will lose more inches per pound lost with liposuction than any other method of weight loss.
As male liposuction has become more and more popular, several common areas are usually addressed by men seeking surgical attention. The common areas most men ask to address are under the chin, the love handles, stomach midsection, and finally the chest area, also known as Gynecomastia.
Massive weight loss from diet and exercise or bariatic surgery often leave patients with unwanted skin and fat folds that are virtually impossible to correct by diet, weight loss, or exercise. A body lift is like a ‘round the world’ tummy tuck. The thighs and buttocks are lifted and many back folds are removed. Other procedures may be required for full correction, but the body lift makes a very big change. A body lift, also known as a belt lipectomy or lower body lift, improves the appearance of the abdomen, thighs, and buttock. The operation removes excess skin and fat from all the way around the mid-section. Some people think of it as an “around the work tummy-tuck” because the incision runs along the panty waist band, all the way around. It is usually done after massive weight loss (after gastric bypass or lap band surgery) but also for saggy skin and body changes following pregnancy and resultant weight gain and loss. The body lift also improves the appearance of cellulite. Removing all the excess skin and fat leaves patients smaller, better able to fit into clothing, and with tighter, smoother skin. The best candidates are in good shape, normal weight (BMI < 25), and at a stable weight. Usually it takes at least a year after weight loss surgery to reach the target weight. Consulting with a surgeon prior to this may motivate you to reach your goal. Massive body contouring is a new, emerging area of plastic surgery. Relatively few plastic surgeons have had formal training in this. It is important to know the level of training and experience of the surgeon you are consulting. Training, experience and results vary greatly among surgeons. The surgery takes about 4 hours to perform and generally done in the hospital followed by one or two night stay there. You can walk after surgery and can start resuming regular activities 2-3 weeks later.
By current agreed definition, volumes of over 10 lbs. of fat are considered large volume. As the levels of fat that needs to be removed rises, the amount of eligible candidates begins to dwindle. For patients who are in the 70 to 100 pounds overweight group and above, an in-depth analysis of health, age, weight, weight patterns, exercise, and motivation is essential to selecting suitable candidates for this procedure. Sometimes weight loss will be needed for certain individuals who may not qualify as candidates for the procedure as weight loss can help the liposuction achieve excellent results.
When there is more than just fat under the arms, like ‘bat-wings’, liposuction alone is not good enough. The skin must also be removed to make the arm smaller. The trade-off is a scar from the armpit to the elbow. But, most people know when the trade-off is worth it. Dr. Giese hides the scar nicely so that it is generally only seen when raising the arms over the head.
A woman’s back side is the ‘other front view’. Curves have always been viewed as sexy. Dr. Sharon Giese will help you to find yours. Sometimes they are just hidden by extra fat around the buttocks. Others may need some enhancement. Dr. Giese prefers fat grafting for buttock enlargement. Using your own bodies fat will keep the buttock soft and it will grow with you.

What is a “Tummy-tuck”? A “tummy-tuck” or abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that will eliminate stretch marks, remove excess skin and fat, and flatten your abdominal paunch (potbelly).
Little Known Bonus’s from Tummy Tuck:
- - Enhanced Sexual Pleasure by a “supra-public lift” which re-locates the clitoris to a higher, more exposed position as well as creates a more youthful appearance to the Mons pubis.
- - Waist cinching by creating an “internal-corset” which tightens the abdominal muscles, which spread with pregnancy and age (rectus muscle plication). This also decreases the appetite for added weight loss after surgery.
- - Thigh Lift by pulling the skin of the anterior and lateral thighs upward.
- - Smaller, more youthful bellybutton by an “umbilicoplasty”, a surgical procedure performed at the time of the tummy tuck, which enhances the appearance of the belly button.
How does ONE operation accomplish so much? A tummy-tuck surgically removes sagging skin resulting from age and pregnancy while also removing diet resistant fat. This is accomplished by a low-abdominal incision, which is hidden in the panty line. The skin is lifted off the spread abdominal muscles, which will be tightened, to cinch the waist (internal corset); excess skin is removed and the remaining skin (free of stretch marks) is re-draped, tightened, and pulls up the thighs and Mons pubis. The belly button is then brought out through the newly tightened skin with a more youthful appearance.
Are you a candidate for a tummy-tuck? The best candidate for a tummy-tuck is a woman who has finished having children or a male patient, who is in good health, and is within 50 pounds of his or her ideal body weight.
**Helpful tip: A tummy tuck can be performed immediately following a hysterectomy or other abdominal surgery thereby reducing the cost of the surgery and the recovery period.
Other Tummy-flattening Procedures If you have predominantly excess skin and looseness of the lower abdomen only, a MINI-TUMMY-TUCK, with a shortened abdominal scar may be the perfect procedure for you. If you only have diet-resistant or excess genetic fat without excess skin, LIPOSUCTION alone, may be the perfect procedure for you.
Maximize Results For the ultimate results from your body-contouring surgery consider combination surgery. Popular combinations with a tummy-tuck include breast augmentation, reduction, or a lift for breast enhancement. Liposuction to the back and hips with a tummy-tuck creates an overall body slimming effect.
After your surgery It is not uncommon to experience a decrease in several clothing sizes after your tummy-tuck. Most patients find it much easier to find clothes that fit well after surgery. During your one-week recovery plan r your new wardrobe and an improved self-image.

Men or women with naturally loose skin or those following massive weight losses may have excessively saggy thigh skin. This may not only present a problem in and out or clothing but also a hygiene issue. Dr. Sharon Giese performs limited and extended thigh lifts, many times on an outpatient basis. Rubbing thighs– be gone!
Stick-like lower legs are not shapely or sexy. Through a small incision in the back knee crease, Dr. Giese inserts an implant to create a sexier lower leg. Don’t throw away those high heels.
